A Physician's Point of View: Dr. Dante Wan

When Deanne Lawson recently wrote to you, she described how she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent successful treatment here at Richmond Hospital. And she told you, through that challenging period of her life, she was grateful for caring people like you who helped make her feel hopeful and capable of overcoming any obstacle.

Deanne was talking about how donors’ generous support of our hospital can make a huge difference… for patients, families, and the health care staff. It allows us to provide the best available medical services with state-of-the art equipment in a modern and resourceful facility.

Deanne certainly benefited from the impact of your donations. And we hope we can count on you once again to help us ensure that everyone in the community can always rely on Richmond Hospital to be there for them.

“Sometimes, you can’t always be the strongest person in the room.”

Those were Deanne’s words when thinking back on her journey with breast cancer. She thanks her family for their love and encouragement, and the health care team for the medical expertise and care. Yet to our team, Deanne had always been the stronger person.

Deanne credits our team for supporting her. We credit Deanne for her perseverance and positivity.

And now, she is helping others facing similar challenges and supporting the work of our hospital and team.

Please think of your donation today as a celebration of courage — the kind exemplified by Deanne and others like her — and of the compassionate care and expertise of your hospital’s team of professionals.

Recently, the Cancer Care Clinic at Richmond Hospital where Deanne was treated moved to a new and larger location. The move was part of a facility upgrade project which will see the construction of a new nine-floor acute care tower, the Yurkovich Family Pavilion.

The new Yurkovich Family Pavilion will provide enhanced health care services for Richmond’s growing population and include a brand new Emergency Department, fully equipped medical imaging centre, as well as other important upgrades.

That brings to mind an important point — the ability to provide excellent health care is directly related to having access to the best available technology and programs that support improved and enhanced methodologies.

Of course, this requires substantial investment. And your donations make an important contribution to this vital part of how our hospital is able to care for our patients.

In her recent letter to you, Deanne mentioned that everyone in the community is somehow connected to Richmond Hospital. I’ve witnessed this working in Richmond and that’s why it is so important for us all to show our support for the hospital and its role in caring for the people in our lives.

Won’t you please make a difference once again by donating to Richmond Hospital Foundation today?

On behalf of the health care staff at Richmond Hospital, and patients like Deanne and their families, thank you.

With gratitude,
Dr. Dante Wan
