COVID-19 Response Fund
Thanks to your generous support of our efforts, we have been able to fund the purchase of four ventilators for Richmond Hospital. We are so grateful for your generosity as we navigate through these challenging times, together as a community.
For those asking how you can help our health care teams in Richmond during the COVID-19 pandemic, Richmond Hospital Foundation established a COVID-19 Response Fund to address the needs of our valued health care professionals; 100% of the donations to this Response Fund went directly to equipment being ordered by Richmond Hospital. This fund gives the hospital the ability to address changing circumstances and priorities and support our front-line efforts.
Thanks to your tremendous support, we have been able to fund the purchase of the following equipment to support Richmond Hospital’s efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your generosity has allowed our medical teams to quickly scale up to create the needed capacity for anticipated volumes now and for any future waves.
CPR Chest Compression Equipment
For cardiopulmonary resuscitation, uninterrupted and effective chest compression is required for survival and better outcomes, but it can be exhausting and difficult to provide consistently and safely manually by hand. CPR chest compression equipment delivers mechanical compressions that are high quality, consistent and sustained to maintain blood flow.
Respiratory Glidescope Blades
Glidescope equipment helps in intubating patients during mechanical ventilation or with the administration of general anaesthesia.
Portable Gas Machines & Ventilators
Ventilators are machines that provide mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air into and out of the lungs, to deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or whose own respiratory system is unable to provide sufficient levels.
In addition to ventilation, portable gas machines have extra capabilities and functionality to administer anesthesia and additional gases that may be required. As Richmond Hospital resumes elective surgeries, the portable gas machines will be stationed in the Operating Rooms and used to administer anesthetics for surgeries.
Additional ICU Beds & Care Spaces
Staff established additional care spaces for an anticipated surge in patients because of COVID-19. Funds support Richmond Hospital’s purchase of new beds to quickly scale up to provide care when needed.
Patient Vital Signs Monitors
These monitors are lightweight and portable, recording a patient’s vital signs, which include measurements such as blood pressure, heart rate and temperature. Importantly, for patients who need help breathing, the monitors also measure the respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and how much carbon dioxide comes out of the lungs. They also help to confirm the placement of a breathing tube and monitor the flow of blood through the body and the quality of ventilation by the lungs.
Oxygen concentrators are used for caring for patients in locations where bedside oxygen outlets or oxygen tanks are not available or possible. The equipment creates higher concentrations of oxygen for patients by removing the nitrogen from room air, leaving higher concentrations of oxygen to help patients who are unable to get enough oxygen on their own.
Our medical professionals have assessed and will continue to determine what is needed to address the rapidly evolving situation in our hospital and community and your donation will have a direct impact. We have been working to understand the greatest areas of need at Richmond Hospital during the pandemic and we will continue to support patient care needs as the hospital expands capacity to set-up additional care spaces for patients and more equipment will be needed.
We expect that equipment needs will continue to be assessed as the pandemic is monitored and the number of cases and the medical responses evolve. We invite you to check back for updates regularly.
